Should Men Wear Makeup?

"Should Men Wear Makeup?" Despite the motley tangents the writer Douglas Cooney chooses to veer off to in this article, it's essentially bringing to light the fact that men wearing makeup has become increasingly popular, whether it's the teen sensation High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron, the middle aged white collar worker trapped in his cubicle, or Mr. John Doe strolling nonchalantly down the street. Let's face it, women are not the only ones obsessing about their beauty anymore. An exuberant amount of men are increasingly becoming more and more conscientious about the crow feet underneath their eyes or parentheses wrinkle lines by their mouth, which could be the difference between them appearing to be a mid-20s bachelor on top of his game and an early 30s man prowling the scene. I think we should just accept the aging process for what it is and stop trying to force ourselves to fit the archetype of an individual who ages "gracefully" on society's terms. Like Cooney said, "There is something admirable about the man [or woman] who takes his [or her] imperfections with grace and carries on with his [or her] life."

  1. In my opinion, men wearing makeup isn't very attractive; however for circumstances such as magazines or acting roles, that is acceptable. Men worrying about their looks are taking it too far! I agree with you: why can't everyone accept the aging process! Aging is a natural process. By taking good care of your body, the process can be beautiful!

  2. Speaking on behalf of men across the world, I will say that it is a common misconception that men don't care about how they look. The difference between men and women, though, stems from the "in the moment" attitude of men. For instance, if I go to a graduation party (which I hope to never have to do again) of course I want to dress up and look presentable. However, if some of my friends are playing basketball at the party, I wouldn't mind joining in and getting smelly and sweaty. Makeup takes away this mindset because not only does it limit what one can do, but it also is a constant reminder of how much work it took to achieve the perfect look. Don't get me wrong, I know women are very unpredictable and active as well, (please don't write me off as a sexist) but I just think that it'll be a long time before men start wearing makeup.
